Timothée Chalamet stands by praise of his own acting amid mixed reactions
Timothée Chalamet has defended comments in which he described his recent body of work as “top-level,” saying he is fully committed to his craft and promotional efforts for his latest film.
Chalamet addressed the controversy during an interview while promoting his upcoming movie Marty Supreme.
In earlier remarks, he called his recent performances “really some top-level s—,” which drew both admiration and criticism from fans and industry observers online.
Responding to backlash, Chalamet told IndieWire that his comments were made with genuine enthusiasm and in keeping with the ambitious spirit of his character, table tennis player Marty Mauser.
“This is in the spirit of Marty … I’m leaving it on the field,” he said, underscoring his commitment to promoting the film in various media appearances and events.
The actor also emphasized his dedication to artistic growth, insisting that his confidence reflects years of hard work rather than arrogance.
“I don’t want people to take it for granted,” Chalamet added, referring to the effort he brings to both performance and promotion.
Marty Supreme is set to open in theaters on December 25, 2025, and has already earned Chalamet nominations for major awards, including at the Critics Choice and Golden Globe Awards.
