It’s been five years since viewers saw Tom Bergeron making an appearance on Dancing with the Stars, and even though the show found his appearance, fans still can’t help but think about the charm and wit he brought to the ballroom every week. The show celebrated its 20th anniversary with an extraordinary episode and saw Bergeron making a surprise return to the popular series. Fans were excited to see the host joining the celebrations as a guest judge and shared their reactions on social media.
Meanwhile, there were many who wondered why the former host decided to make a return to the show now and didn’t make a special appearance in previous editions. Finally, we have an answer to the burning question, as Bergeron revealed why he chose to step back into the spotlight.
Speaking in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the 70-year-old TV personality opened up about his firing from the show and didn’t shy away from criticizing the former showrunners, who were responsible for his exit. During the conversation, he made it clear that the show’s 20th anniversary celebrations were not the only reason why he decided to re-enter the ballroom. He said, “If the previous regime was still in charge of the show, I wouldn’t go back.”
Furthermore, Bergeron noted that he didn’t like the previous showrunner, and it was Conrad Green who extended the olive branch and invited him back to the show. Green is the executive producer of the show who launched the series in 2005 and returned for Season 33. AS per the former host, Green is responsible for the show’s newfound popularity. He added, “He kind of put everything back together again, Humpty Dumpty-style (laughs), and he started extending an olive branch to me.”
In 2020, ABC and BBC studios announced that Tom Bergeron wouldn’t be returning as the host of the popular dancing show, Dancing with the Stars, as they looked to head towards a new creative direction. However, Bergeron believes that things started to get chaotic as soon as he opposed the show’s decision to cast former White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer in Season 28. Since then, he has been quite vocal about how politics should be kept away from the dance competition.
His appearance as a guest judge was met with a lot of praise, as fans loved his energy and the unique charm he brought to the special occasion. It would be interesting to see if the makers would want Bergeron to come on the show more frequently and eventually take on the hosting duties again. Nonetheless, Season 34 of Dancing with the Stars is slowly and steadily moving towards its star-studded finale, and the competition is getting fiercer with each passing episode.
Let’s see who takes the coveted trophy home this time around.
