Toronto Blue Jays Acquire Kris Bubic From Kansas City Royals In Huge MLB Trade Proposal

After coming up just short in the World Series, the Toronto Blue Jays have spent the offseason putting together a roster that will hopefully have them in a position to get over the hump next year.

Most notably, the front office handed a big-time contract to Dylan Cease, adding another reliable arm to complement Kevin Gausman, Trey Yesavage, and Shane Bieber.

They also managed to land Japanese slugger Kazuma Okamoto, an addition that will ideally help make up for the loss of Bo Bichette.

Altogether, this team certainly has the talent to make another run.

But in the MLB these days, there’s no such thing as too much, so the Blue Jays remaining aggressive in the weeks leading up to the season wouldn’t be a huge surprise.

Let’s evaluate one trade proposal that would see Toronto bringing in some pitching help.

Kris Bubic Trade to the Blue Jays: MLB Proposal

Kansas City Royals starting pitcher Kris Bubic has put together a unique career to this point. He started off as a member of the Royals’ rotation, struggled, and was moved to he bullpen in 2024, where he found his groove. He returned to the starting staff in 2025 and was nothing short of dominant.

Last season, he made 20 starts, pitched 116.1 innings, and closed out the year with a 2.55 ERA.

With Bubic coming off a very strong year and set to play on an expiring contract, some have pegged him as a trade candidate. FanSided’s Christopher Kline is a part of that group and has pitched the Blue Jays as a potential trade partner.

“It’s not as if the Toronto Blue Jays really need more pitching — Toronto has five starters on hefty contracts and a rookie sensation in Trey Yesavage — but their rotation is comprised entirely of righties at the moment, and depth on the mound is never a bad thing. The Blue Jays are flush with resources and desperate to compete at the highest level,” wrote Kline.

Should The Blue Jays Trade For Kris Bubic?

Kline breaks down the situation very well.

On one hand, the Blue Jays have no shortage of pitching talent. Cease, Gausman, Yesavage, and Bieber make up a solid group. Beyond that, Bubic’s 2025 campaign would make this a buy-high situation.

On the other hand, teams with World Series aspirations can never have too much pitching depth, and Bubic being a southpaw would give the Blue Jays’ rotation a much-needed lefty.

There is reason to believe both Toronto and Kansas City would be willing to pull the trigger on this deal, but from the Blue Jays’ perspective, there just doesn’t seem to be a need to make this trade.

Sure, their rotation isn’t a world-beating group, but it’s certainly enough to complement an offense that could very well be the AL’s best in 2026. The starting staff just doesn’t really need an injection of talent, and it features plenty of depth.

There’s also a real chance that this move blows up in Toronto’s face. Giving up high-end prospects for a pitcher with a shaky track record is a risky move.

Ultimately, the Blue Jays should sit this one out.
