Later this month, Disney will be releasing the next instalment in the iconic Pixar franchise, “Toy Story”, in cinemas around the world, and today, Disney has announced that the movie will feature a brand new song from the 14 Grammy Award-winning artist, Taylor Swift.
The toys are back in Disney and Pixar’s “Toy Story 5,” and this time it’s Toy meets Tech. Woody (voice of Tom Hanks), Buzz Lightyear (voice of Tim Allen), Jessie (voice of Joan Cusack) and the rest of the gang’s jobs are challenged when they come face-to-face with Lilypad (voice of Greta Lee), a brand-new tablet device that arrives with her own disruptive ideas about what is best for their kid, Bonnie. Will playtime ever be the same?
The new original song, “I Knew It, I Knew You,” was written and produced by Taylor Swift and Jack Antonoff. It will be released wherever music is streamed and purchased on Friday, 5th June 5 2026. The single will be featured on the “Toy Story 5” soundtrack when it releases on digital platforms on June 19th 2026
Inspired by the rootin’ tootin’ cowgirl Jessie’s ongoing journey in “Toy Story 5” that began back in “Toy Story 2,” “I Knew It, I Knew You” also marks a return to Taylor Swift’s country roots, blending styles that have defined her record-breaking career as a songwriter and artist.
“Toy Story 5” director and screenwriter Andrew Stanton said in a statement regarding the new song:
“It’s incredible just how meaningful it’s been having Taylor write and perform this song. Her connection to Jessie and the immediate way she understood what the character was going through was undeniable. The song is so deeply connected to ‘Toy Story.’ So much so that on first listen, it instantly felt like it had always belonged there, like a long-lost family member. It was kismet.”
Over the weekend, Disney began teasing the announcement with a series of “TS” billboards, a play on “Toy Story” and Taylor Swift’s shared initials, that appeared in LA, Chicago, Dallas, San Francisco, Toronto, Mexico City, and London.
Pre-sales begin today on Taylor Swift’s website for three exclusive CD editions that feature the new single as it appears in the film, a special acoustic version, and a special piano version, all with unique vocals and production.

“Toy Story 5” will be released exclusively in theatres on June 19th, 2026, and it will be coming to Disney+ later this year.
Roger’s Take: Getting one of the biggest music stars in the world involved in the “Toy Story” franchise is a massive win and will no doubt generate tons more interest from the “Swifties”. Disney has already had plenty of success teaming with Taylor Swift on many projects, including a documentary series and concert special, so they know how this song will benefit them. As a fan of Taylor’s original country music, I’m looking forward to hearing the new song and seeing it play out on the big screen this summer.
