Traditional Bank Athlete of the Week: TFCA’s Sims scores 38 points in Royals’ win over Robertson

By LINDA YOUNKIN/State Journal

William Sims, a member of The Frankfort Christian Academy’s boys basketball team, has picked up where he left off last season.

He scored 38 points in the Royals’ 77-59 win Saturday at Robertson County and has been chosen as the Traditional Bank Athlete of the Week.

Sims was the Royals’ leading scorer last year with 17.5 points per game. Now a senior, he’s leading TFCA again, averaging 16.3 points while shooting 41.2% from the field and 72.7% from the free throw line.

Sims has been playing basketball at TFCA since he was in the fifth grade, and he’s been on the varsity team since he was in the eighth grade.

Sims is the son of Bridget and Cory Sims.

State Journal: What is your role on this year’s team?

Sims: I would say my role this year is to lead the team with energy as a senior captain and look for ways to score the ball.

SJ: What do you like about this year’s team?

Sims: I really like how this year’s team has built a real culture around basketball. I can say in all the years I’ve played here I’ve never seen a team put this much work in as a whole.

SJ: How do you think the team has improved since last season?

Sims: With everybody from last season returning I think we’ve really improved in our physical capabilities and game IQ. I’ve also got to say there have been a lot of positive additions to our coaching staff and that in turn improved our mentality as a team.

SJ: Do you have a favorite shot?

Sims: I like shooting from everywhere really, but if I had to choose a favorite it would probably be corner threes.

SJ: What other activities are you involved in at school?

Sims: I’m involved in a number of clubs at my school: Beta, Student Council, National Honor Society, academic team, and Chick-fil-A leadership. I also do other sports like soccer and track.
