Donald Trump has been bragging about a “recent” phone call he had with Tom Cruise, even after the A-lister turned down an invitation to be honored at this year’s Kennedy Center Honors.
During a speech at the American Cornerstone Institute Founder’s Dinner on September 20 , Trump spoke warmly of Cruise, telling the crowd, “They looked like Tom Cruise,” referring to US Air Force pilots.
“They are all great looking guys. I would have said Tom Cruise. He called me about something recently, he was such a nice guy, I’m not going to say… I’m just saying, he’s a hell of a looking guy but these people are great,” Trump added, just days after touting new ‘gold’ visas.
The praise comes as the Washington Post reported Cruise declined the White House’s offer to be included among this year’s honorees, citing “scheduling conflicts.”
The 2025 Kennedy Center Honors, set for December 7, will recognize Sylvester Stallone, Gloria Gaynor, KISS, George Strait, and Michael Crawford.
Reacting to Trump’s comments about Cruise, fans took to X – formerly known as Twitter – to voice their opinions.
“Tom Cruise did not call Donald Trump,” one post read.
Another noted Trump’s phrasing, writing, “This is how Trump speaks. He can’t form normal sentences.”
“We hope Trump can graduate from U.S. politics and move on to Scientology and do to it what he did to America,” a third penned.
