TTAG supports 11pm music deadline for outdoor events

Panaji: While welcoming govt’s willingness to consider relaxing sound pollution restrictions beyond 10pm, the Travel & Tourism Association of Goa (TTAG) said that the deadline for loud music has to be 11pm. Permitting outdoor spaces to play loud music beyond 11pm will create hardship for local residents, said TTAG president Jack Sukhija. He said indoor spaces with proper permissions and soundproofing should be allowed to play music without restrictions as it will not affect those who reside near such venues. On Friday, CM Pramod Sawant told the assembly that govt will explore whether the sound restrictions can be relaxed beyond 10pm for tourism-related events and businesses, local weddings, and other functions. Law minister Aleixo Sequeira said govt is seriously considering filing a review petition before Supreme Court to revisit the sound restriction issue for Goa.“While the TTAG considers this discussion in the assembly about sound restrictions being extended from 10pm as a good move, we would like to clearly state that outdoor spaces should only be extended till 11pm from 10pm within the permissible decibel levels as prescribed by the law. It should not be extended beyond 11pm as it will affect people who reside near such venues,” said Sukhija.Sound pollution monitoring and restrictions must be adhered to in Anjuna, Vagator, and other zones where there are constant complaints and where local residents have approached the court. The TTAG said that people residing in these areas are clearly getting affected by the loud music played at clubs, restaurants and outdoor events.
