Twin Rivers High School junior Reagan Thomas is only step away from her volleyball season and can’t wait to get on the court and play.
“I’m very excited,” Thomas said. “I’m excited to see the potential that we all have this season and see how much we grow throughout the season, and be together and get to know each other better.”
Thomas started playing volleyball at a young age and her passion has continued to grow over the years.
“I started playing volleyball my sixth grade year, but I learned to love the sport more when I was my seventh or eighth grade year,” she said. “My family has played volleyball in the past, so it kind of just drew me closer to play it and just follow them.”
During her sophomore season, Thomas had eight kills with a 24.2 kill percentage, helping her team achieve 10 wins during the season. Thomas feels her time on the court with her teammates has helped her.
“Playing with the high school people has made me better and has impacted me more,” she added. “We’ve had a lot of team bonding experiences and been growing closer and getting to know each other, which makes it easier to come together on the court.”
Thomas is coached by Marisa Vancil and Kelly Westerfield. She credited them for their guidance and support they’ve given her throughout her journey.
“They’ve helped me a lot with going through volleyball and life,” Thomas said of her coaching staff. “They have really touched my heart and have been like family to me. They’ve impacted my journey a lot throughout the last few years. They teach and have let me grow the way I need too and have led me towards the right decisions and right ways.”
The team’s first game is Sept. 2 at home against the Kelly Lady Hawks, followed by other home matches against Doniphan and Pemiscot. During the season, the Royals will play 19 games. Thomas expects the season to go well, but understands challenges will present themselves along the way.
“There are a couple of teams we play that will a little more challenging,” Thomas said. “But I know as a team, we’re going to come together and we’re going to fight through all the challenges and the ups and downs and not let anything get in our way.”
Thomas credited her family for the support and love they’ve given her along the way that’s made her a better person and volleyball player.
“I have a cousin that plays basketball and my mom played volleyball here,” she said. “My aunt has played sports, and they all come to my games and cheer me on in the stands and they’re always the beside me.”
When high school is all said and done, Thomas hopes to look back on her time playing Twin Rivers volleyball and be proud of what she accomplished.
“I want to remember how much I’ve grown from the beginning to the end,” she added. “How much I can say that all of my team’s come together and grown closer each other, and nothing can breaks our bonds.”
