Tyriq Withers does not necessarily agree that he’s an “internet boyfriend,” but he’s happy to be in the conversation.
“Oh my gosh – what? I hear crickets in my head,” Withers, 27, tells PEOPLE at the Monday, March 9 premiere of his new movie Reminders of Him, when asked about internet chatter that he could be a future PEOPLE Sexiest Man Alive contender. “I’m like, ‘Really?’ I mean, if y’all have me, I’ll be grateful and thankful. I don’t know why you’d pick me, but I’m here. I’m here.”
When asked if Withers is aware he has been coined an “internet boyfriend,” the actor adds, “Those are your words. I never signed up for that. I think the beautiful thing about it is I just show up to these interviews and just bring myself, and I’m just glad people resonate with that. It is validating that you don’t have to be anybody else but yourself.”
Withers broke out in Hollywood in 2025 with notable roles in last year’s I Know What You Did Last Summer sequel and the football-themed horror movie Him. He takes a turn at the romance genre in the new movie Reminders of Him, an adaptation of author Colleen Hoover‘s 2022 novel of the same name that costars him with Maika Monroe.

The movie sees Monroe, 32, portray Kenna, a woman who attempts to reconnect with her young daughter after serving a seven-year prison sentence for her role in a car crash that killed her daughter’s father. Withers depicts the dead man’s friend, who falls in love with Kenna after hiring her to work at his bar and reveals that he has helped care for her daughter during her incarceration.
“As their secret romance develops, so do the dangers for both of them, leading Kenna toward heartbreak and, ultimately, the hope for a second chance,” a synopsis for the film reads.

Withers previously told PEOPLE that he is “aware of the fanatic culture” that some actors inspire while chatting about his movie Him back in September. As he said at the time, “the block button is there for a reason.”
Prior to his most recent string of roles, Withers made his onscreen debut in an episode of the 2021 series Legacies and in a movie titled Horror Noire the same year. Reminders of Him is his 15th credited screen acting role. He will next star in a movie titled Family Secrets, which Deadline first reported on in 2023.

“Chasing a career in acting, you have to really dedicate a lot of time to the training, to the mental preparation, the emotional turmoil that life has to throw at you, and use that to mold who you want to be in the industry,” he told PEOPLE in September.
Reminders of Him also stars Rudy Pankow, Lauren Graham and Bradley Whitford. The movie is in theaters March 13.
