In the Hudson Valley, one angry neighbor can torpedo a whole music scene.
This scenario most recently played out at The Ridge by Mill House in Highland. The business took to social media to lament the cancellation of their Memorial Day Brews, Blues & BBQ event along with all outdoor live music going forward.
“Being a small business in this economic climate is difficult and it is disheartening to deal with threats from a neighbor when you are simply providing a welcoming space for your community to gather in a relaxed, respectful and non-disruptive way”, read a statement by the venue.
Venue owners noted that their music events have been family-friendly, kept strictly within decibel limits, consisted only of local musicians and ended by 8pm. Despite numerous neighbors showing their support, one in particular was singled out (though not by name) as the reason for the pause.
The business is now searching for a path forward to resume live music. Hundreds of commenters responded to the post, with the vast majority voicing their support for The Ridge.
