ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Upstate New York’s hardcore music scene rallied together to help out one of their own. A charity concert was held at Montage Music Hall on Friday. Back on March 14, Shawn Hermann’s house burned down. He’s the guitarist for Syracuse-based metal band “When Skies Decide.”
His band organized with a couple local punk and metal bands to host a charity show, with all the proceeds going to Hermann and his family as they pick up the pieces.
“It’s indescribable. Just, so much love,” Hermann said.
Matt Finley, drummer, explained the spirit of the scene.
“In a mosh pit, what do you do when somebody goes down? Pull em back up, man. You pull em up. That’s what this community is,” Finley said.
“I appreciate seeing everybody coming together. It’s really wonderful,” Hermann said.
Music from When Skies Decide can be heard on Spotify.
