Comedienne Vicki Lawrence brings her most famous character from “The Carol Burnett Show,” Mama, to a performance at the Gallo Center for the Arts in Modesto. Her show was postponed from January. A Modesto native is part of a comedy tour also coming to the center. There’s also music and more to keep you entertained March 28 to April 3 in the region.

“Vicki Lawrence & Mama: A Two-Woman Show,” featuring the Emmy Award-winning comedienne, will play at the Gallo Center. Lawrence was part of the legendary cast of “The Carol Burnett Show.“ There, she created the character of Thelma Harper, better known as “Mama.“ Lawrence later starred in “Mama’s Family“ for a six-year run. This show replaces one postponed earlier this year. Limited tickets remained available.

Ladies of Laughter

The Gallo Center brings back the Ladies of Laughter show for a third straight year. The tour includes winners and the best talent from the Ladies of Laughter national competition. This year, Modesto’s own Glory Magana is among the performers. Also on the bill are Susan Ware and Karen Rontowski. Limited Tickets remained available.

MJC Powwow

The Modesto Junior College Intertribal Powwow returns, hosted by the campus Sierra Program. This year’s theme is “Tradition is Our Medicine; Knowledge is Our Fire.” Open to the public, the celebration brings together Native communities from across California and more for dancing, singing, drumming, traditional arts & crafts and food.

WHEN: 10 a.m.-7 p.m. March 28

“Strings” concert

“Strings, Our Vibrating Universe” featuring violin, cello and guitar will be held at The Graffiti USA Classic Car Museum. Presented by Advocates for the Visual Arts, the exhibit “A Festival of Art Spring Show” also will be available for viewing during the concert.

MoSt Poetry fest

The Modesto-Stanislaus Poetry Center holds its annual MoSt Poetry Festival, this year a bilingual conference where Spanish and English will be celebrated in poetry. Guest poet/facilitator is Juan Luzuriaga. Registration and a continental breakfast will be available 9:30-10 a.m. A light lunch also will be served.

“Youth in Bloom”

A new exhibition is open at the Stanislaus Arts Council Gallery, “Youth in Bloom.” The exhibit celebrates the creativity of young artists throughout the community. Guests can vote in the Community Choice Award for their favorite work. An artist reception will be held 5-7 p.m. May 20.

WHEN: Noon-5 p.m. Thursdays, noon-6 p.m. Fridays-Saturdays, March 9-May 22
