Victoria Beckham docuseries premieres on Netflix next week. From Spice Girls to Paris Fashion Week, here’s what we know about the series.

Two years after the Emmy-winning Beckham — the 2023 Netflix docuseries about British soccer star David Beckham’s life —  captured global attention, the camera is shifting its focus to another member of the famous family, Victoria, in a three-part documentary premiering on Netflix Oct. 9. 

Victoria Beckham, directed by Nadia Hallgren, follows the life of Beckham, née Victoria Adams, from her childhood as a self-described “awkward” kid in eastern England to global superstardom after joining the Spice Girls in 1994 and marrying David Beckham in 1999. David’s Studio 99 production company, which produced Beckham, is behind the new series.

The documentary also dives into her career evolution over the past two decades in the fashion world and features behind-the-scenes footage of Beckham preparing for her line’s showing at 2024 Paris Fashion Week.   

The focus on Beckham’s career change is important to her and wasn’t easy, even though she was already a public figure, she says in the trailer.

“I desperately wanted to be liked, have a sense of worth. Fashion was this creative outlet,” she says. “People thought, ‘She’s a pop star, she’s married to a footballer, who does she think she is?’”

Victoria Beckham wasn’t sure if people would care about her life

While Beckham had a key presence in her husband’s earlier docuseries — and even inspired a viral meme — she wasn’t sure viewers would want to watch one focused on her.

“My husband convinced me to do this documentary. To be honest, I wasn’t sure anybody would really want to see what I do every day,” Beckham told Bloomberg in May. “I thought long and hard about it, and then I realized that now is the time to do it.”

She said a big part of her decision was because she’s been “defined” by the public as Posh Spice and hopes the docuseries will shed more light on the work she’s been doing in the fashion world for nearly 20 years. 

“It’s taken this long for me to feel confident enough in what I do and my brand, knowing that now is the time that I can talk about my past,” she said. “I can talk about the journey, I can talk about struggles, because I can do that confidently feeling it’s not going to damage the brand. Nothing is sugarcoated.” 

Victoria kept it authentic when filming Paris Fashion Week

Beckham told Elle that she could not perform for the cameras when she was preparing for her Paris Fashion Week show, so the footage included in the series offers a very unfiltered look at what it’s like behind the scenes. 

“There was so much going on that I had to turn a blind eye to the fact that they were there,” she said, referring to the camera crew. “Otherwise, I wouldn’t have gotten anything done. I was like, ‘Guys, I’ve got a day job to be getting on with.’”

Will the docuseries address reported Beckham family drama?

It’s not clear whether Victoria Beckham will address the rumored rift between the eldest Beckham son, Brooklyn, and his wife, Nicola, and the rest of the family. 

The family hasn’t publicly commented on the media’s reports that they’re fighting. Brooklyn briefly addressed the topic with the Daily Mail in early September, saying, “There’s always going to be people saying negative things, but I have a very supportive wife.”

“Me and her, we just do our thing,” he said about Nicola. “We just keep our heads down and work. And we’re happy.”

Who is interviewed in the series?

The series features interviews with Beckham’s close friends and family, including husband David and actress Eva Longoria. There are also interviews with prominent figures in the fashion world who have worked with Beckham, including Tom Ford, Roland Mouret and Anna Wintour.
