Vishnu Manchu counters MLA Anirudh Reddy’s suggestion to conduct mandatory drug testing for actors
Vishnu Manchu‘s strong response to MLA Anirudh Reddy’s proposal for drug testing actors
What did MLA Anirudh Reddy propose?
In a previous media interaction, Anirudh Reddy expressed his belief that drug use in Telangana could diminish if influential figures in the film sector set a positive example. He asserted that there is a prevalent belief among the public that significant drug-related incidents are associated with the film industry. Consequently, he suggested that actors undergo regular drug testing every 90 days using testing kits.
He further contended that celebrities like Chiranjeevi, Pawan Kalyan, and Balakrishna wield considerable influence over their fans, often surpassing that of politicians. He argued that if actors demonstrate they are free from drugs, it could deter their followers from adopting similar behaviors. He encouraged actors to voluntarily participate in such testing, noting that their fans tend to emulate their conduct.
The MLA also mentioned that he has personally undergone drug testing and possesses evidence to validate it. He proposed that actors should be required to submit drug test results before their films receive clearance for release. He added that non-compliance could lead to suspicions regarding their involvement.
His remarks triggered various reactions online. Many questioned why actors were being held to stricter standards than elected officials. Some praised Vishnu Manchu’s response, calling it courageous, while others demanded greater transparency and more rigorous checks for politicians.
Regarding Vishnu Manchu’s recent projects, he was last featured in the mythological Telugu film Kannappa. The film, released in 2025, also included cameo roles by Akshay Kumar and Prabhas, with Mohanlal playing a significant part.
