With the 2027 NFL Draft set to take place in Washington, D.C., small businesses across the region are preparing to seize a major opportunity. Large-scale sporting events are more than moments of entertainment, they are powerful economic drivers that bring investment, visibility, and long-term growth to local communities.
The 2027 Draft will be held on the National Mall, with more than 1 million visitors expected to travel to the nation’s capital. The event is anticipated to generate significant economic impact, mirroring previous host cities. For example, in 2025 the NFL Draft in Green Bay, WI generated more than $100 million in statewide economic activity.
To help businesses access that opportunity, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce recently convened an information session in partnership with Events DC and the Washington Commanders. The session focused on how local vendors can engage with the NFL’s procurement program, NFL Draft Source, an initiative designed to connect small and underrepresented businesses with contracts tied to major events.
Through an 11-month program, participating businesses will gain exposure, build strategic relationships, and compete for procurement opportunities in areas such as food and beverage, transportation, and event operations. The initiative aims to offer a pathway to sustained growth and national visibility.
“Today is all about access, opportunity, and connection,” said Dr. Chanelle Reynolds of the Washington Commanders. “The goal is to keep as many dollars in the DMV as possible.”
The U.S. Chamber’s work is part of a broader effort to strengthen connections at the intersection of sports, business, and community impact.
For example, an interview series hosted by Rick Wade, Senior Vice President of Strategic Alliances and Outreach, showcases the insights of industry leaders, athletes, and entertainers. The Chamber has also convened athletes and corporate leaders to highlight opportunities into entrepreneurship, community events, and the broader workforce.
