Carly Pearce discusses upcoming fifth studio album: ‘A lot of lace’
The singer-songwriter has released two singles from the her forthcoming project: “Church Girl” and “Dream Come True.”
Carly Pearce and Riley Green are steaming up the screen in the rain-soaked music video for their new duet, “If I Don’t Leave I’m Gonna Stay.”
The tension-filled collaboration, released through Blue Highway Records, captures the push and pull of two people who know they should walk away but can’t quite do it.
In the sultry visual, Pearce stands by a rainy window with two empty wine glasses nearby and her heels kicked off on the floor. Meanwhile, Green lingers across the room before the pair drift closer together, eventually singing inches from each other’s lips.
Pearce said bringing the collaboration to life felt almost effortless.
“It’s very rare that an idea in my head comes into fruition as seamlessly as this collaboration did,” she said. “I have wanted to record a duet with Riley for a long time now and I hoped he would think this song was as special as I did. I am so proud of this collaboration. His vocal sounds incredible and I am so grateful that he joined me on it.”
Directed by Wes Edwards, the temptation-laced video leans into the song’s emotional crossroads.
The song begins: “Two more glasses in the bottle / One more pour and I’m pretty sure I shouldn’t drive.”
By the chorus, the stakes are clear: “If I don’t leave I’m gonna stay / If we don’t stop we’re gonna start all over again.”
In August, the two singers performed “Don’t Mind If I Do” during the Big Machine Label Group’s 20th anniversary celebration on Broadway.
And before fans get the wrong idea, they are just friends. Pearce confirmed in July that she was dating Jordan Karcher, founder of Grounds & Hounds Coffee Co. and Shop With Eileen. Meanwhile, Green joked about persistent rumors surrounding his love life last June.
“I’m not dating anyone,” he told Westwood One’s Bev Rainey. “I find out who I’m dating weekly on social media.”
“If I Don’t Leave I’m Gonna Stay” is the third taste of Pearce’s upcoming fifth studio album, following the releases of “Dream Come True” and “Church Girl.” The Kentucky native told the Tennessean her forthcoming project reflects a deeper return to her roots and a broader emotional palette.
“There’s a lot of lace. I’m going back to my roots, going back to Kentucky. The origin of where I come from and where my dreams started,” she said. “I’ve learned a lot and I’ve learned a lot about myself and I know who I am through and through and I also have a lot more to say that I didn’t even know was inside of me.”
While heartbreak songs remain a part of her identity as a writer, Pearce said the next chapter reveals more layers.
“I’m more than just a heartbreak album. I’m more than just relationship songs. Those are a part of me. You’re gonna get some and they’re really good, but there’s a lot more to me and I feel Iike you’re really going to see that vulnerability.”
