Join us as King Charles III has addressed a joint meeting of the US Congress at the Capitol in Washington DC during his historic state visit to America.
The King thanked the American people for their welcome and paid tribute to the long relationship between the United Kingdom and the United States, with his opening remarks drawing a standing ovation in the packed chamber.
The speech was one of the major set-piece moments of the visit, placing royal ceremony, soft power and the UK-US relationship at the centre of Washington politics. It came as President Donald Trump hosted the King and Queen during a state visit designed to underline the special relationship between Britain and America.
Queen Elizabeth II was the last British monarch to address Congress, speaking there in 1991. More than three decades later, King Charles used the same stage to mark history, diplomacy and friendship between the two countries.
