NYT Connections Answer for Today, June 5, 2026

Films like “Superman” and “Fantastic Four: First Steps” were predictable hits at the box office this summer, but one of the surprise hits of the season seemed to come out of nowhere.

“Weapons,” the horror film starring Julia Garner and Josh Brolin, received great reviews from critics and audiences alike. Fans appreciated the blend of humor and horror from director Zach Cregger, as well as the performances from several actors in the film.

After leading the box office for multiple weeks this season, one of the driving forces behind the film has eyes on remaking a 70s classic for a new auidence.

What’s Next for the ‘Weapons’ Producer?

According to The Hollywood Reporter, “Weapons” producer Roy Lee will work with famed horror director Sam Raimi on a reimagining of 1978’s “Magic.” The movie starred the legendary Anthony Hopkins as a ventriloquist influenced by a murderous dummy.

The original film was based on a 1976 novel by author William Goldman, and Goldman also wrote the screenplay for the film. Richard Attenborough directed, and the film also starred Ann-Margret and Burgess Meredith.

Hopkins played two roles in the film, operating as human Corky and the voice of ventriloquist dummy Fats. He received Golden Globe and BAFTA nominations for his work in “Magic,” setting the stage for what would be an incredible career spanning several decades.

The actor would go on to star in more horror films throughout his career, with his role as Hannibal Lecter in “Silence of the Lambs” often regarded as the finest work of his career.

Who Else Will Work On the Film?

Chris Hammond and Tim Sullivan will produce the “Magic” remake with Lee and Raimi. The pair have been longtime fans of the original movie, and have been supporters of a remake. Hammond helped produce 2003’s “Shade” featuring Jamie Foxx and Sylvester Stallone, while Sullivan has worked for “years” to make another film based on Goldman’s novel.

Raimi’s most recent work is a survival horror film called “Send Help,” featuring Rachel McAdams and Dylan O’Brien in the starring roles. The film will follow a woman and her boss who fight to stay alive on a deserted island after their plane crashes.

“Weapons” has grossed over $235 million at the worldwide box office, smashing past its modest $40 million budget. For Lee, it could be one of multiple hits this year. The film adaptation of Stephen King’s “The Long Walk” releases later this month, and the producer is credited there as well.
