Happy birthday to America! It’s the weekend to celebrate the United States, with fireworks and parades, and so much more. Bloomington’s parade begins at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 4, with the Bloomington Community Band performing at 9 a.m. at the Monroe County Courthouse.
Before that, anyone who wants some patriotic singing can participate in the Sing Out Veterans! event on Thursday, July 2. There will be more music this weekend at the Orbit Room, at Nashville Hard Truth Distillery and at Lake Lemon.
Sing Out Veterans! tribute on Thursday
Sing Out Veterans! is a singing tribute to U.S. veterans that begins at 7 p.m. Thursday, July 2, at Bell Trace Commons, 800 N. Bell Trace Circle. The program is free. The group will sing the Service Medley, patriotic songs and other favorites to honor all veterans, their families and friends.
The SOV Ensemble with vocalist Ethan Upchurch, Stella Hooker-Haase, James Orbit Simon, David Shank and Mark Wiedenmayer will accompany the one-hour program. Song lyrics will be projected on screen and songbooks will be available. For more information, contact Mark Viedenmayer at [email protected].
Orbit Room offers music Friday and Saturday
Two nights of music at the Orbit Room are happening Friday, July 3, and Saturday, July 4.
It starts with SurfMania with The Katatonics and The Predictas at 8 p.m. Friday. Tickets are $11.33.
Then on July 4 there are two shows. First, it’s Jefferson Street Presents JonyP Quartet at 3:30 p.m. Then at 5:30 p.m. The Shack Ups/Holocene/Jfbrontasaurus at 5:30 p.m. Both shows are free to attend at 107 N. College Ave., Suite 001 (underground). For more, go to www.orbitbtown.com.
Live Music on the Rocks at Hard Truth
Enjoy the music of Banister Bluegrass from 6 to 9 p.m. July 4, at Hard Truth Distillery’s outdoor stage. Guests can spread out on the 325-acre campus, relax on the outdoor terrace and enjoy food, cocktails and beer. It’s a free concert that’s part of the company’s Live Music on the Rocks series. Hard Truth Distillery is at 418 Old Ind. 46 in Nashville.
Happy 250th Birthday America at Hardin Ridge
Celebrate the nation’s 250th birthday from noon to 2 p.m. July 4 at the Happy 250th Birthday America at Hardin Ridge Recreation Area’s amphitheater. It’s south of Lake Monroe in Monroe County, at 6464 Heltonville Road, Heltonville. There will be crafts and games and more. For more information, call 812-275-5987.
July 4th Music Fest at Lake Lemon
Lake Lemon Marina will present July 4th Music Fest 3-11:30 p.m. at 9554 E. Northshore Drive, Unionville. The music starts at 3 p.m. with JC Clements playing roots-driven folk followed by Bambi Killjoy at 5 p.m. rocking out some country rock. At 7 p.m. the Bloomington-based music project Paddy Trio & Friends take over with its dynamic, guitar-driven pop-rock-indie sound.
The finale will be fireworks by the Lake Lemon Conservancy District. Come by car or boat to the peninsula. The Lighthouse Cafe will remain open serving food, beer and wine until 11:30 p.m. There is no entry fee. For more information, check out the July 4th Music Fest! Facebook page.
