The trailer for Abbott Elementary Season Five, premiering exclusively on Rolling Stone, opens with Chingy’s “Right Thurr” — the perfect, high energy soundtrack for the beloved sitcom’s return slated for Oct. 1 via ABC.
The clip begins with Quinta Brunson’s character Ms. Teagues, declaring, “Welcome back!” and soon devolves into teachers wearing giant red caps, misbehaving students (and teachers), crashing ceilings, bicycle accidents, and a “new school year” with “new challenges.”

“Ms. Teagues will now have 40 students,” announces Janelle James in her role as Principal Coleman. “And I, for one, am excited to see if it will break her.”
“It won’t,” Ms. Teagues responds, before whispering: “It might.”
Abbott Elementary was renewed for a fifth season in January 2025. One episode was filmed at a Philadelphia Phillies game featuring the entire cast, though it’s unclear which episode it will be. The next installation will also include special Halloween and Christmas episodes.
For Season Five, Abbott Elementary will air on ABC at 8:30 p.m. ET/PT on Wednesdays, in between Shifting Gears and The Golden Bachelor. Each episode will be available on Hulu on Thursdays after its initial airing.
The series is nominated for several Emmys this year, including Outstanding Comedy Series, which they last won in 2022. Brunson is up for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series and for Outstanding Writing for the episode “Back to School.” (She took home the acting trophy in 2023.) Meanwhile, both Sheryl Lee Ralph and Janelle James are nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series. Ralph won the award in 2022.
“Abbott gets to feel like this bubble where my crew and I have this oasis where we get to create, and it makes us feel like kids again,” the showrunner and creator Brunson told Rolling Stone last year. “That’s the feeling I always want to have when I’m creating, whether anyone sees it or not … But what’s great about zeroing in is that I’m just focused on wanting to make something that I can be proud of. And that helps me celebrate the wins.”
