Bruce Springsteen is raising his voice against violent immigration raids in Minneapolis through music this week.
The musician released “Streets of Minneapolis,” on Wednesday, Jan. 28, condemning recent deaths of U.S. citizens at the hands of federal agents and the Trump administration’s approach to immigration enforcement.
“I wrote this song on Saturday, recorded it yesterday and released it to you today in response to the state terror being visited on the city of Minneapolis. It’s dedicated to the people of Minneapolis, our innocent immigrant neighbors and in memory of Alex Pretti and Renee Good. Stay free, Bruce Springsteen,” Springsteen said in a statement on his website.
Amid controversial immigration raids, immigration agents shot dead 37-year-old U.S. citizen Alex Pretti on Jan. 24 in Minneapolis. The shooting of the ICU nurse was captured on video by multiple people.
Civil unrest had already grown widespread in the wake of a previous killing of a U.S. citizen by a federal immigration officer in the city. The Jan. 7 fatal shooting of 37-year-old Renee Nicole Good by an ICE agent in Minneapolis also was caught on video.

What are ‘Streets of Minneapolis’ lyrics?
Here are the lyrics to “Streets of Minneapolis,” per Genius.com:
Verse 1
Through the winter’s ice and cold
Down Nicollet Avenue
A city aflame fought fire and ice
‘Neath an occupier’s boots
King Trump’s private army from the DHS
Guns belted to their coats
Came to Minneapolis to enforce the law
Or so their story goes
Verse 2
Against smoke and rubber bullets
In the dawn’s early light
Citizens stood for justice
Their voices ringing through the night
And there were bloody footprints
Where mercy should have stood
And two dead, left to die on snow-filled streets
Alex Pretti and Renee Good
Chorus
Oh, our Minneapolis, I hear your voice
Singing through the bloody mist
We’ll take our stand for this land
And the stranger in our midst
Here in our home, they killed and roamed
In the winter of ’26
We’ll remember the names of those who died
On the streets of Minneapolis

What is going on in Minnesota?
The Trump administration says it will reduce the presence of federal immigration officers and move to “targeted” operations in Minneapolis as protests and civil unrest continue in the wake of a fatal shooting of a U.S. citizen, captured on video, by federal immigration officers over the weekend.
Alex Pretti, a 37-year-old ICU nurse with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, was shot dead by a Border Patrol agent during an immigration raid in Minneapolis Jan. 24. Federal officials claimed Pretti approached officers with a gun, though multiple videos from bystanders showed him approaching officers with his phone, and he had a permit to carry a firearm, which was holstered.
Video shows agents disarming Pretti as they wrestle him to the ground, and then shooting him multiple times.
Previously, an ICE agent shot dead U.S. citizen Renee Nicole Good Jan. 7 in her SUV in Minneapolis during an immigration raid. The killing also was captured on video. Federal officials said the officer shot in self-defense as Good attempted to hit him with her vehicle, while local officials disputed the account.
On Jan. 14, a federal officer with DHS shot a man in the leg in Minneapolis. The department said the person was a Venezuelan national who fled and then assaulted the officer during an attempted arrest. Both individuals were then hospitalized.
