Keagan Smith provides the latest injury updates for Angels star Mike Trout after he was scratched just before Tuesday’s game vs. the Royals.
About half an hour before first pitch of Tuesday’s game between the Los Angeles Angels and Kansas City Royals, the visitors see a major change to the lineup as Mike Trout has now been scratched.
Per the team, it appears the star outfielder is dealing with a skin infection.
Trout slashes .231/.361/.425 with a .786 OPS, the lowest mark in the stat category of his career since his rookie campaign in 2011. While he’s struggling to hit for average, the 34-year-old has still tallied 58 runs, 54 RBI and 20 home runs in 108 appearances — far from poor production on the stat sheet. However, he’s currently undergoing his longest homer drought of the last 10 years as he hasn’t driven a ball past the outfield fence since August 6.
With Trout spending the night out of the lineup, Jo Adell shifts to DH and Chris Taylor enters at right field against the Royals.
The Angels are 64-73 this season and all but eliminated from the AL Wild Card chase barring unforeseen circumstances at 8.5 games back. At this point of the year, Los Angeles will look to test out potential MLB talent, such as pitcher Mitch Farris in his first big-league start tonight.
