SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — Buckle up for a trip back in time.
Back to the Future: The Musical opened this week at the Washington Pavilion in downtown Sioux Falls.
Rapid City man arrested for manslaughter
David Josefsberg first saw Back to the Future as a teenager in 1985.
“I was so excited because I was already starting to be an actor and I thought I am going to be Marty McFly, so I just had to wait until I got elderly to play Doc Brown,” Josefsburg said.
As Josefsburg plays a quirky scientist, Lucas Hallauer portrays the time-traveling teenager Marty McFly.
“It’s really cool to be able to take an iconic character that people love and be able to bring an extra layer to that. Obviously, we have music and song and dance, which obviously wasn’t a thing in the movie,” Hallauer said.
Cast members say if you enjoy the original movie, you’ll like the musical.
“If you know the movie, there’s a DeLorean, and we do have one of those on stage with us and it’s really cool to see how the technical team has put together those time travel sequences and to see the car racing through the streets of Hill Valley and traveling back in time,” Hallauer said.
Even if you’re newer to the 1980s classic, Josefsburg says you’ll still be entertained.
“If you’ve never seen it, it stands alone. I tell the story, I have two teenage kids, and they’re boys like, ‘Okay, dad, you’re real cool.’ They came and saw it and said, ‘Hey, dad, can I come back on the weekend with my friends?’” Josefsburg said.
Back to to the Future: The Musical continues its run at the Washington Pavilion through the weekend.
