New chapters abound for Erin Krakow and Ben Rosenbaum — and not just in Hope Valley.
PEOPLE can exclusively reveal that the When Calls the Heart costars welcomed a baby girl in April. This exciting news comes a year after they first shared that they had tied the knot.
“Our precious new family member entered the world in early April,” Krakow, 41, and Rosenbaum, 39, tell PEOPLE via email. “Our daughter has been the greatest gift, and we are loving getting to know her better with each passing day.”
The pair also joke that Krakow is “no longer outnumbered” by Rosenbaum and their dog, Willoughby.

“It’s already hard to remember life before she arrived,” the couple says. “We are loving our roles as parents, and it feels like being parents together has only deepened our partnership. We are, however, a bit more tired, and Erin — who was a non-coffee drinker previously — has had a change of heart on the matter.”
Krakow and Rosenbaum aren’t the only When Calls the Heart stars who were expecting a baby at the same time. Kevin McGarry and Kayla Wallace, both of whom have been on the hit series now readying its 14th season, and Chris McGarry and his wife, fellow Hallmark actor Julie Gonzalo, were also getting ready to add new members to their families. (McGarry and Wallace revealed their baby’s arrival on Mother’s Day.)
“Getting to surprise each other with the pregnancy news was a peak fun life experience,” say Krakow and Rosenbaum. “There were shrieks of excitement that only grew with each announcement. We’ll never forget their shocked faces when we shared that we were also expecting. … The FaceTimes, photo-sharing, and check-ins are wild as we watch each other’s babies develop along with our own. We can’t wait for the babies to hang together on set this year!”

Read on for more adorable details from the first-time parents.
How were the first few weeks with your daughter? It was so joyful and dreamy bringing home our baby girl. We got very lucky to have a happy and easy baby. Our families came out to L.A. to meet her and help us adjust. It’s been so beautiful watching all of them delight in her presence as we have. And Willoughby has been an adorable bodyguard. He’ll hear the tiniest noise from his little sister and run to her at heroic speed. He turns to us as if to say, “What’s taking you so long?”

What has surprised you the most about this experience so far?How immediately and naturally our sense of identity and priorities shifted. First and foremost, now we are parents and the needs of our child are always top of mind. That happened instantaneously in a way no other life experience has affected us before.
What’s your favorite time of day with your baby? What’s been the hardest?Getting up with her in the morning is maybe the hardest just because of the sleepy brain fog, but that’s quickly remedied with sweet baby cuddles and coffee! Family walks together through our neighborhood have been idyllic in the mornings and evenings.

Who do you think she resembles?Friends and family have told us consistently that she looks like a total combo of the two of us, but so far, we only see a resemblance to either of us in flashes of a little facial expression or certain angles in pictures. She just looks like her own little person to us!

Is there anything you experienced on the show that you feel set you up for this moment in your life?Ben has gotten covered in oil, disaster makeup, or some other messy situation just about every season of When Calls the Heart — which has probably been the best prep of all. It’s really true that you can never have too many burp cloths! And Erin has spent years acting with babies on set.
There was a particular storyline where Elizabeth became emotional as she packed up the clothing her son had outgrown. We’re starting to pack away our little girl’s newborn clothes, and it fills us with heartbreak and pride. Parenthood is a rollercoaster of emotions, but with each onesie we pack away, we’re greeted with a new milestone, and we are loving her delighted gummy smiles and coos!
