Where Is ‘Tracker’ Filmed? Location and Setting of Justin Hartley’s Show Explained

Colter Shaw will stop at nothing to try and solve cases on CBS’ Tracker, no matter the stakes. But where is the show filmed?

The hit drama series follows Justin Hartley as lone wolf survivalist Colter, who travels in an Airstream across the U.S. to help find missing persons. Throughout the show’s first two seasons, viewers got to see Colter tackle cases in Montana, Nevada, Idaho, Vermont, Virginia, his family’s fictional Echo Ridge, California, property and more.

The job has certainly been physically demanding for Hartley, who admitted it was “challenging” to film in the Airstream, per the Sioux City Journal.

“We’re a roadshow,” executive producer Ken Olin told the outlet. “We’re out on location seven out of eight days shooting. Physically, it’s challenging – particularly for Justin. It’s a very physical show and he’s in 90 percent of it.”

Where Is ‘Tracker’ Filmed?

Though episodes of Tracker see Colter traveling to different cities across the U.S., the show is actually filmed in Canada. Filming locations have included Vancouver Film Studios, the Cleveland Dam in North Vancouver, the Beach Grove Hotel in British Columbia, Burrowing Owl Estate Winery in Oliver, British Columbia and more scenic spots in the Great White North.

Ahead of season 3, production reportedly arrived at South Okanagan at Osoyoos’ Sun Bowl Arena in British Columbia in August 2025, per Castanet.

“The production may cause temporary noise from trucks, generators and scene sounds,” a public notice said, according to the outlet.

Justin Hartley Reflected on Shooting ‘Tracker’ in Canada

Season 2, episode 16, saw Colter navigate snowy terrain while searching for two missing sisters in the Montana wilderness. Hartley shared what it was really like filming in the snow.

“Anytime you get elements like that it’s worth it. We shot in Whistler [Ontario, Canada]. I don’t know how many times I was walking and all of a sudden — I’m 6-foot-3 and boom, I’m 2 feet tall,” he told The Hollywood Reporter in April 2025 of sinking in the snow. “That happened quite a bit. I think there are a couple of falls in the episode you see; those are not stunts, that’s me falling and we decided to keep it in. I took a couple of really nasty spills, and to be totally honest with you, I’m still healing up a little bit. But that was months ago; it was worth it.”

Hartley continued, “One of the hardest parts of that episode was they had all of these huge fans, it was like eight of them. I think eight fans were around me at one point. We were outside and they’re shoveling snow in the front of them, blowing snow and ice in my face for the blizzard that we’re supposed to be in. But there was no wind, just these eight fans that are bigger than you and I put together.”

Justin Hartley Learned Survival Tactics From Filming in Canada

Hartley shared that filming in the wilderness helped him develop useful survival skills.

“The survivalist tactic I’ve learned from Tracker is to be patient and stay calm in times of great stress,” he told Us Weekly exclusively in March 2025. “When you panic, you make bad decisions. That’s one of the things he lives by, so I try to live by that as well. It’s reinforced every time I play the character, so I guess that helps me in my personal life.”

Though the job involves a lot of preparation and training, Hartley is thrilled to be part of such a successful series on the network.

“The proudest moment of my career is building Tracker from the ground up with Ken Olin and having people believe in us enough to give us money to shoot it,” he told Us. “Seeing the response from the people that watch it, that love it, that’s it. You never think you’re gonna be able to do something like that, but it’s been remarkable.”
