In the long, proud tradition of reality television dressing up “put kind of famous people in mild danger” as a journey of self-discovery, Channel 9 has landed on an unusual pitch: SHARK! Yes, both the definition of celebrity and the exclamation mark are working overtime. The premise? Six ocean-fearing Australian celebrities fly to the shark capital of the world and film themselves as it all unfolds. The show is filmed in Bimini, which is home to 40 different species of sharks and stars much-loved influencer Tammy Hembrow alongside a handful of other Australian celebs. The stars will start with cage dives before building up to open water swims. And somewhere between screams and circling fins, the show, hosted by two passionate conservationists promises a meaningful environmental message.
Sure, it’s unexpected, but if you’re looking to fill a Married at First Sight-sized hole in your heart, it may just fit the bill.

What Is The Series About?
Celebrities like Australian influencer Tammy Hembrow and Olympian Ariarne Titmus will be guided by shark attack survivor and former Navy clearance diver, Paul de Gelder and shark researcher Annie Guttridge. They are both avid advocates for conservation and want to challenge long-held misconceptions about sharks. Our national treasures will be taken through a series of challenges that start safe-ish (cage diving) and end quite unsafe, swimming outside a cave with tiger sharks, the most dangerous predators in the ocean, alongside great whites and bull sharks.
All of the celebrities have inner turmoil they hope the challenges in the series will help them overcome (Scott Cam is a “recovering people pleaser” who apparently couldn’t turn down Channel 9 producers). Lynne McGregor who starred on Home and Away, reportedly wanted to inspire women her own age. She recently told TV Week about her experience. “I was so far out of my comfort zone, but I wanted to show women of a certain age that you can do stuff,” she said. “You’re not confined to the rocking chair. If you can walk and you can talk and you’ve got a modicum of gumption, get off your backside and go out and do it because we’re here for a good time, not a long time.”
