NEED TO KNOW

  • Disney+ has canceled five popular shows so far in 2025

  • Goosebumps and Extraordinary ended prematurely despite high ratings and viewing hours

  • The streamer also axed animated shows, including Primos

Disney+ has axed some of its most-watched shows.

While the streamer has welcomed new hits in 2025 — like Eyes of Wakanda, Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man and Ironheart — it’s also pulled the plug on several fan favorites. The latest book-to-TV adaptation of Goosebumps and the British superhero comedy Extraordinary were canceled.

There were even titles that got the boot before they even made it to air. In March 2025, Walt Disney Animation Studios announced that it had canceled its plans for a Tiana series, which would have been based around the beloved characters from the 2009 animated classic The Princess and the Frog.

Still, several popular projects have been renewed for new episodes, including Percy Jackson and the Olympians and Daredevil: Born Again.

From Goosebumps to Shardlake, here are all the Disney+ shows that have been canceled (so far!) in 2025.

Variety reported in August 2025 that Disney+ had canceled Goosebumps after its second season. The horror-comedy series based on R.L. Stine‘s iconic book series premiered in October 2023 and garnered a total of 75 million viewing hours in the U.S.

Goosebumps was an anthology and featured a new story and a new cast each season. The cast for both installments included big names like Justin Long, David Schwimmer and Rachael Harris.

Though the show won’t be returning to Disney+, a source told Variety that series producer Sony Pictures Television has plans to shop the title around.

Primos

After premiering in July 2024, Animation Magazine reported in June 2025 that the 2D animated series Primos would not be renewed for a second season.

The show followed a biracial and bilingual blended Mexican-American family living in Los Angeles. After several years in production, it underwent further revisions after the opening sequence was criticized for promoting negative Latinx stereotypes.

Once it aired, Primos had a generally positive reception and was even nominated for an Annie Award and a GLAAD Media Award. However, TV Line reported in May 2025 that the series had wrapped up production after completing the 28 episodes in season 1.

Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur

In February 2023, Disney+ premiered its first-ever Black teen superheroine in the animated series Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur. Voiced by actress and singer Diamond White, the show was adapted from the Marvel comic book of the same name about a young super genius who accidentally brings to life a Tyrannosaurus rex.

Although the series won three awards at the 2023 Children & Family Creative Arts Emmys, according to TheWrap, rumors that Moon Girl had not been renewed began circulating in March 2025. In a since-deleted post on X about the show’s future, storyboard artist Gabi Rode replied to confirm the cancellation.

“What sucks is that a bunch of us at Disney knew about this for so long but couldn’t outright say it,” the artist commented, per ComicsXF. “The [Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur] production area was a ghost town for over a year.”

It wasn’t just the U.S.-based programming that took a hit in 2025. Variety reported in January 2025 that a popular Disney U.K. show wouldn’t be renewed for a new season. Extraordinary, a comedy starring Máiréad Tyers as the one person in the world who doesn’t develop superpowers, wrapped after two seasons — despite leaving viewers on a major cliffhanger.

“We’re so proud of the hilarious, award-winning series brought to life by the incredibly talented British and Irish cast and crew, our production partners at Sid Gentle Films, and the exceptional writing talent of creator Emma Moran,” a rep for Disney+ told the outlet.

Shardlake

The Sean Bean-led historical mystery series Shardlake was also axed in January 2025, according to Variety. The Disney U.K. series ran for just one season and starred Bean alongside Arthur Hughes and Anthony Boyle.

“We’d like to thank Stephen Butchard who adapted the late C.J. Sansom’s beloved novel for the screen, the entire cast – led by the outstanding Arthur Hughes – and crew, and our production partners The Forge and Runaway Fridge,” a rep for the streamer told Variety. “We hope to work with all of our partners across these shows again in the future.”
