The White House hit back at Stephen Colbert after celebrities like Robert De Niro and Bruce Springsteen called out the Trump administration during their appearance on the penultimate episode of Colbert’s long-running show.

De Niro addressed the Epstein files while Springsteen called out Paramount’s Larry and David Ellison by name over the cancellation of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.

More than a dozen celebrities made surprise appearances during Stephen Colbert’s penultimate episode on The Late Show. Among the celebrities, veteran Hollywood star Robert De Niro and music legend Bruce Springsteen took jabs at the Trump administration, inciting a response from the White House.

When De Niro was asked by Colbert what number he was thinking, which was a standard question he asked during the questionnaire, the Taxi Driver star said, “OK. Cause I thought it would’ve been two million point five, or two and a half million. That’s the number of Epstein files Trump still hasn’t released.”

Bruce Springsteen, another vocal critic of Donald Trump, closed the show with a new protest song. “I am here tonight in support of Stephen because you’re the first guy in America who’s lost his show because we’ve got a president who can’t take a joke,” he said.

“Larry and David Ellison feel they need to kiss his a** to get what they want,” Springsteen added, “Stephen, these are small-minded people … they got no idea what the freedoms of this beautiful country are supposed to be about.”

The White House hit back on Colbert after this episode. “Stephen Colbert is a pathetic trainwreck with no talent and terrible ratings, which is exactly why CBS canceled his show and is booting him off the airwaves,” a White House spokesperson told Fox News Digital.

Both comments from the two icons, as well as the White House’s response, received mixed reactions on social media platforms like X and Reddit.
