What do you get when you cross Bob Ross with Fred Rogers and add a dash of Mr. Kotter? Well, you get Matt Taylor, someone who looks a lot like comedian Kevin James and teaches you about art.
A viral TikTok account launched two weeks ago called @thisismatttaylor for Mr. Taylor, an art teacher from parts unknown, and has been getting millions of views. There is also an Instagram account under the same name.
Now if you think Mr. Taylor looks, sounds and acts a lot like Kevin James, you are not alone.
The wholesome videos (eight so far) showing Mr. Taylor drawing landscapes, talking about teaching and educating students have been getting lots of attention. The TikTok account has around 253,100 followers, while the Instagram account has about 42,500 followers since both launched on Oct. 15.
Most commenters believe this is just James pranking us and James did become “The Sound Guy” during the pandemic, posting videos where he is inserted into famous movie scenes holding a boom mic.
However, one internet sleuth may have cracked the case and uncovered why James is assuming this alter ego.
Alex Rabinowitz, who makes entertainment videos under @popculturebrain and has 310,000 followers on Instagram, took a dive recently into why Kevin James could be assuming the persona of Mr. Taylor.
James, best known for his TV series “King of Queens,” has new movies coming out. One called “Playdate” comes out next month, but James plays a character named Brian Jennings. However, a movie coming out in February entitled “Solo Mio” might be the answer, Rabinowitz believes.
James plays a character named Matt (no last names listed yet) and the teaser for movie on IMDB.com says: “After being left at the altar in Rome, Matt goes on his honeymoon alone, discovering Italy’s gorgeous landscape, culture, and people.”
Could this be Mr. Taylor discovering the rich Italian beauty and art? And the social media videos are a clever promotion for the movie? So far James isn’t saying. We will have to wait and see.
