Last month, social media accounts popped up for an alleged art teacher named Matt Taylor. In his first video shared on TikTok on Oct. 15, the supposed educator was seen in a classroom with his students, preaching that “art gives your imagination wings” and “teaches you about life.”
Good stuff, yes. But there was something wildly suspicious about Taylor — or as his students refer to him, Mr. Taylor. He looked and acted exactly like actor Kevin James.
So yes, if you landed on this article looking for confirmation that James is Taylor, this is it. The 60-year-old actor and comedian is indeed pretending to be an art teacher named Mr. Taylor on social media. And we thought James’s biggest stunt was dressing up as Jelly Roll.
Under the handle @thisismatttaylor on TikTok, Instagram, and sometimes YouTube, James posts videos of himself creating sketchpad masterpieces (that are surprisingly good!) and imparting wisdom about teaching — a profession that isn’t actually his. James even shared a video of himself as Taylor claiming his father just passed away.
But the big question is why? Is the “King of Queens” star having a rough year in Hollywood? No, not exactly.

In Kevin James’s upcoming romantic comedy “Solo Mio,” he portrays a character named Matt Taylor who gets left at the altar in Rome. Despite the heartache, Taylor decides to still go on his honeymoon by himself, where he immerses himself in Italy’s vibrant culture and meets his new leading lady.
In addition to James, the cast includes Jonathan Roumie, Alyson Hannigan, Kim Coates, Julie Ann Emery, and Nicole Grimaudo, among others. According to Deadline, the movie is set to hit theaters on February 6. James, along with brothers Patrick and John Kinnane, wrote the film.
While initial movie descriptions don’t mention Taylor’s profession as an art teacher, all the other details align perfectly.
Perhaps James is pulling this social media stunt to help fans understand his character better, or he’s trying to generate publicity for the movie. Or maybe he’s just having fun with us. Just know that Taylor’s art-filled videos will likely disappear once the movie’s promotional campaign ends
