The ending of Foundation Season 3 saw Gaal and Mule fighting each other in an epic showdown. While Gaal’s vision saw her getting beaten by the Mule, in the real world, she ultimately managed to overpower the Mule and mentally subdue them before slitting their throat.
But this was not the end of the season’s villain. Instead, moments after finally defeating the Mule, Gaal felt a strong presence followed by blinding pain inside her head. In a shocking twist, this led to the revelation that Bayta Mallow is the Mule. This is a sharp deviation from the source material.
In fact, it is also one of the most interesting deviations, as Bayta is the one in the novel who discovers the real identity of the Mule. But the show seemingly ends by showing that Bayta is the villain. In the novel, Magnifico Giganticus was revealed as the Mule.
Perhaps Magnifico Giganticus is the Mule, and this is just clever misdirection for now. The upcoming seasons of the show may reveal Giganticus to be the real Mule after all, but as it stands, the show has revealed Bayta to be the primary villain.
There are plenty of other interesting things that happened throughout the final episode. But it was far from the conclusion of the show. The Apple TV+ show has been renewed for a fourth season. So fans will have to wait some time to know more about the characters’ fates.
After all, the show ended without giving much clarity on many of the primary characters.
