Charlotte Church revealed that taking part in Celebrity Traitors “restored her faith” in famous people after collaborating with them in the programme’s castle.

The former vocalist and performer, 39, paid the penalty for being overly curious and was eliminated by the Traitors Jonathan Ross, Alan Carr and Cat Burns in tonight’s latest instalment of the BBC programme.

Following her departure from the programme, Charlotte remarked: “It was way more intense than I expected. It has restored my faith in celebrities a little because, generally, I just really keep out of that whole celebrity scene, and I have perhaps been a little bit too harsh in my judgement of celebrities.

“It was wonderful to spend time with some really very interesting people. I think that’s been my favourite part of the experience. Genuinely, to just be in the company of some extraordinary people with extraordinary stories and minds was the best bit.”

Upon discovering she had been ‘murdered’ on the BBC programme, Charlotte appeared less irritated than other participants, reports the Mirror.

She informed the cameras: “I’ve spoken at the roundtable, and I’ve outspoken with my opinions. Not that I was successful in being much of a threat to the traitors. But as the game progressed, I hope that I would have been and I hope that that’s why they’ve gotten rid of me. Well played traitors.”

Looking back on the experience later, she remarked: “I was really happy to be a Faithful. I think even if the Traitors had tried to recruit me, I would have said no. I just don’t think I would have been able to hack that level of constant deception.

“I think you need to really want it, and you need to be really up on the strategy of the game and working all the angles in order to be a good Traitor. I just didn’t want that sort of experience. I wanted a bit of an adventure, something different and a challenge.

“Really, as a Traitor, you have to hide but you’re in receipt of all the facts and I think that makes the game easier in a way, and less emotional. I think it’s much more emotionally wrought when you’re a Faithful.

“That said, I don’t know what it is to be a Traitor and what that experience is to be feeling guilty potentially.” She characterised the programme as “Complex. Discombobulating. And…naughty!”.

The contestant also revealed she had discovered aspects about herself that she would carry forward beyond the programme and back to Wales, where she currently operates a wellness retreat.

Charlotte, a mother of three, shared: “I’ve learned quite a lot about myself. I’ve learned that I do feel things very deeply, which I knew anyway, but I thought I would be able to switch it off a bit more and I really couldn’t. Not that I want to. Part of what I’m doing in my life now, and the work that I’m doing in the world, is all about re-sensitising the heart and not numbing out feelings. I just felt such deep empathy for everyone in there.”

She also discovered her love for solitude, saying: “I also learned that I really enjoy solitude. I’ve got such a busy life, which is so constantly full and surrounded by other people, that having those times when you had a moment, didn’t have phones, didn’t have distractions, I was really happy with that and it felt quite peaceful.”

Charlotte also commended the show’s producers for the tasks they created for the celebrities to participate in to raise money for charity, which included guessing and matching wailing sounds and pulling a Trojan horse along a road.

She expressed: “The Missions were fun, absolutely. It was really wonderful to be playing. Essentially, that’s what we were doing, playing in a way that we probably haven’t done since childhood.

“When you’re a child you’re making up your own games which are a bit nonsensical. In this environment you have absolutely brilliant people formulating incredible games for you to play that you wouldn’t experience anywhere else. That was really fun.

“I had the most fun in the Wailing Banshee Mission! I think the most impactful was the Trojan Horse Mission, because it was so extravagant. It was beautiful being in the Scottish Highlands. Also, it was genuinely really hard lugging this enormous horse as a group of people.”
