The Road continued its musical journey with the remaining nine musicians handpicked by Blake Shelton, Taylor Sheridan and Keith Urban competing in the new CBS singing competition in which they serve as the opening act for Keith. Their third stop was at The Oklahoma Ranch in Oklahoma City.
For their third performance of the season, the nine artists were again divided into two groups over a two-night event. Each artist had to sing an original song and a cover with the goal in mind to impress the audience, who voted.
The four on the first night were Cassidy Daniels, Cody Hibbard, Jenny Tolman and Forrest McCurren, but for Cody, a sudden medical emergency – kidney stones – meant he wasn’t performing at the top of his game and which might have cut his journey short. Both Cassidy and Cody have been in the top in previous episodes, while both Jenny and Forrest have been in the bottom.
Then, in a surprise for the audience and for the contestants, “Tour Manager” Gretchen Wilson kicked off the night’s music, performing her hit song “Here for the Party.”
At the end of the night, the bottom two vote getters were assessed by Blake and Keith and one had to give up their seat on the bus when they were eliminated. Next week, the remaining five will perform and someone else will be eliminated.
The grand prize for winning The Road is a slot at Stagecoach, a recording contract and $250,000.

Who was in the top on The Road tonight?
For her third performance in a row, Cassidy Daniels finished on top for her cover of Chris Stapleton’s “I Think I’m In Love With You” and her original song “Southern Rock.”
“That says a lot,” Blake told her. “You were first to go.” Meaning being up first isn’t an easy position to be in.
Who was in the bottom two on The Road tonight?
The audience also voted for the bottom two and Jenny Tolman and Forrest McCurren both found themselves once again as the musicians with the least number of votes.
Gretchen said, “Jenny, your performance tonight, you didn’t seem like you were missing anything. You looked very comfortable tonight.”
And Keith said, “Forrest, there’s a spirit and a vibe about you when you’re singing. It has to do with your delivery, your swag kind of thing. But we can only keep one of you. I think given that Forrest has been in the bottom three times, I don’t know if we can carry you through anymore. You’ve done an amazing job and I’m glad America’s gotten to see you and meet you.”
“Thank you all for letting me be a part of what you’re doing,” Forrest said. “This is more than I ever expected, truly. To make it here and to hear you talk about what I do, I would never have imagined it. Y’all got a friend in Missouri.”
“You’ve got a really good light,” Keith told him.
The Road will air Sunday nights at 9 p.m. ET/PT on CBS and stream next day on Paramount+.
