She appeared in more sketches than anyone else in Season 49 and became well known for recurring characters like teen film critic Bailey Gismert and Angel, the overdramatic boxing girlfriend.
Earlier this year, Gardner hinted that she was feeling the effects of “sketch fatigue.” Speaking on Craig Ferguson’s Joy podcast, she admitted that constantly generating new material after years at SNL and The Groundlings had become challenging. Her Instagram posts following a cast retreat also carried a tone of reflection, fueling speculation that she was preparing to leave.
Michael Longfellow’s SNL exit has been more surprising for many. The comedian joined SNL in Season 48 as a featured player and earned a promotion to the main cast by Season 50. Longfellow quickly stood out with sharp Weekend Update appearances, leading many to believe he was being groomed as a future desk anchor. However, despite that momentum, he announced on Instagram that he will not be returning for his fourth season, calling his time on the show “the best three years of my life so far.”
