Here in the office at Seven, we’re Love Story obsessed. You’ll often find us huddled around our desks discussing the trials and tribulations of JFK Jr. and Carolyn Bessette, along with the iconic era of ’90s fashion that the pair wore so effortlessly.
Mostly, though, we talk about Carolyn. Her style was simple but impossibly put together: neutral palettes and pieces that looked understated yet somehow perfect every time.
But it’s not just the clothes that fascinate us. It’s the era. A time before everyone was building a personal brand, before phones and social media fed us an endless stream of trends. In the ’90s, people were just… living. Dressing for themselves. Doing their own thing.
If there’s one takeaway from the show, it’s that we could all embrace a little more of that spirit. Spend less time on our devices and more time developing a sense of style that feels personal. Like Carolyn, we can’t be replicated, but we can take inspiration and make it our own.
And that’s the real magic of her wardrobe. It’s capsule dressing at its best: simple but elevated pieces that work together effortlessly and can be worn a hundred different ways.
Everyone wants to shop like Carolyn because she wasn’t trying to be anyone else. She was simply herself, a natural beauty with impeccable taste (it helps that she worked at Calvin Klein, of course). In the series, Calvin Klein calls her a “bright light.” And she was. That’s why, all these years later, she’s back in the zeitgeist.
Our team sat down to curate a few of our favourite Carolyn Bessette Kennedy looks. But they are only to glean inspiration from. We encourage you to make it your own. In our eyes, the style isn’t really about the clothes at all. It’s about finding your own bright light and dressing like it.
