Devon Walker’s exit from Saturday Night Live, explained
Devon Walker announced his departure from Saturday Night Live (SNL) after three seasons on August 25, 2025.
In an Instagram post captioned “me and baby broke up,” Walker reflected on his time at the NBC sketch comedy show, calling it “sometimes … really cool” but also “toxic as hell.” He described jobs in the entertainment industry as “a bunch of little marriages” and said his experience with SNL was “permanent until they’re not. That’s the deal. You know what it is when you sign up.”
Walker, 34, joined SNL as a featured player in 2022 and moved to the main cast in 2024. He portrayed Michael Strahan, Van Jones, and New York City Mayor Eric Adams. He frequently appeared on “Weekend Update” with Colin Jost and Michael Che and starred in sketches like the “Life Insurance” skit with Ego Nwodim and Quinta Brunson.
In his announcement, Walker stated, “Me and the show did three years together, and sometimes it was toxic as hell. But we made the most of what it was, even amidst all of the dysfunction. We made a f–ked up lil family.” He added that he was especially glad to have shared the experience with Gary and Alex, saying, “N—– really went from running a bar show to working together at 30 rock! It’s a beautiful thing.”
Walker also revealed his immediate plans, writing, “Anyway, I’m bout to go to Japan. When I get back I’m tryna be in a prestige drama. Ideally something with Julianne Moore.” He ended his post on a lighter note: “Hope y’all staying hydrated and getting some money today.” He included a screenshot of a text message where he wrote, “I’m out” alongside the words “celebration emoji,” underscoring his exit announcement.
Walker’s exit follows SNL creator Lorne Michaels’ confirmation of major cast changes for the 51st season, premiering October 4, 2025.
