In a surprising move for Georgia, most of Marvel‘s upcoming productions are shifting base to the U.K. Earlier, Georgia’s generous production tax credits had made it one of the most attractive destinations for Hollywood productions, but with Marvel deciding to leave the state, things are expected to change.

Marvel’s reason behind leaving Georgia for upcoming projects explained

Marvel is shifting its upcoming slate of work, which includes the likes of Spider-Man: Brand New Day and the two Avengers films, to the United Kingdom, just like it did with the Pedro Pascal-led movie, The Fantastic Four: First Steps.

As outlined in a report by The Wall Street Journal, Marvel is doing this because of lower labor costs and comparable tax incentives in the United Kingdom. This makes the entire production budget cheaper. This move is going to make a big dent in Georgia’s economy.

Marvel alone has produced over a dozen films and shows in Georgia, including some of Marvel’s best works like Avengers: Infinity War, Black Panther and other big hits. Moreover, this reportedly brought in billions in revenue to the state.

Other studios and projects have seemingly started following Marvel’s example. For instance, as per reports, 245 projects were shot in Georgia in the fiscal year that ended in June compared to 412 in fiscal 2022.

The rise of streaming has also been a reason behind the fall in numbers, as studios are trying to get more things done at a cheaper rate. But Marvel pulling out its big productions from Georgia is still a huge impact on the movie industry in the U.S.

Other major titles that left the States for overseas locations include Barbie and Wicked in recent years. It seems that this is a growing trend, and things are expected to escalate further in the coming years.
