Why Kirsten Dunst wants to star in ‘Minecraft’ sequel

Kirsten Dunst cares about making money moves.

The Oscar nominee revealed in a Town & Country magazine interview published Wednesday, Aug. 20, that she would like to star in a sequel to the box office blockbuster “A Minecraft Movie” released earlier this year.

“Maybe I can just make a movie where I don’t lose money?” Dunst told Town & Country, referring to a possible second film in the franchise and any flick that helps fill her bank account. She also said her kids loved the first one.

“A Minecraft Movie” shattered expectations at the box office in April, grossing a record-breaking $157 million domestically, according to estimates from Comscore. That represented the biggest three-day opening ever for a movie based on a video game at the domestic box office.

For now, Dunst is slated to star opposite Channing Tatum in the upcoming film “Roofman.” She will also appear in a mermaid thriller with “Anora” star and reigning best actress Academy Award winner Mikey Madison and a forthcoming film with frequent collaborator and director Sofia Coppola.

Despite her signature humor, Dunst’s Town & Country also turned heartfelt. She revealed to the outlet that her 4-year-old son James – whom she shares with husband and fellow actor Jesse Plemons – suffered a medical emergency while shooting her upcoming film, “The Entertainment System Is Down.”

The dark comedy, written and directed by Ruben Östlund, was shot in Budapest and stars Dunst, 43, alongside Keanu Reeves and Tobias Menzies.

In the interview, Dunst shared that the medical ordeal took place while Plemons, 37, and their children were staying with her in the Hungarian capital. Although Dunst and Plemons had rented a home, with plans of remaining for the film’s production, things changed course amid James’ “serious health scare.”

While the actress didn’t go into details on James’ health issue, Dunst confirmed that “everyone is fine now.” After the incident, Plemons took James and their other son, 7-year-old Ennis, back to Los Angeles while Dunst remained in Budapest.

‘Keersten’: Kirsten Dunst clarifies name pronunciation

In a Town and Country magazine TikTok video, the “Fargo” star told the outlet that her first name is pronounced “Keersten,” incorrectly from how people say “Kirsten.”

“I mean, everyone messes up my name. So I give up, I don’t care,” Dunst told T&C, revealing that she’ll even “answer to Kristen.” She continued, telling T&C that she doesn’t “blame people” for messing up the proper way to say her name. She added that pronunciations of her name differ by geographic location, adding “but again, who cares?”
