Veteran actor Michael Caine is returning for a movie after announcing his retirement in 2023. He last starred in The Great Escaper and has since been enjoying his retirement with his family. But following the announcement of a sequel to his 2015 dark fantasy movie, his retirement plans could change.

Michael Caine to feature in The Last Witch Hunter 2, two years after taking retirement
Academy Award Winner Michael Caine is popularly known for movies like The Dark Knight series, The Prestige, and The Cider House Rules.
In 2023, he shared that he’s “sort of” retired from acting. However, the 92-year-old actor could be returning to reprise his role as Dolan in The Last Witch Hunter sequel.
Lionsgate announced that The Last Witch Hunter 2 is in the works with Vin Diesel and Caine returning to reprise their roles. The first movie was based on Diesel’s own Dungeons & Dragons campaign. When the movie found its home on Netflix in June this year, it ranked in Netflix’s Top 10. This interest in the decade-old movie has led to Lionsgate greenlighting a sequel.
Adam Fogelson, chair of Lionsgate’s Motion Picture Group, said, “The Last Witch Hunter has grown since its theatrical release into a global fan favorite, with audiences continuing to discover and rewatch it across every platform over the past decade.”
He added, “That enduring enthusiasm made clear there is an appetite for more stories set in this world. Vin and I have partnered many times over the years, and he is a true force in our industry. I’m thrilled to be reuniting with him as he returns to this iconic role, and excited by how advancements in filmmaking technology now allow us to economically deliver a sequel on an even more ambitious scale.” (via Deadline)
While the deal of Caine’s return has not been confirmed yet. But it remains a high possibility that he’ll be back for the sequel.
