Kevin James may have an alter ego who teaches 4th grade art.
In October 2025, a man who looked and sounded exactly like the comedian joined TikTok under the name Matt Taylor and began sharing videos about his life as an art teacher. (An Instagram account was also created with the same name.) Some of Taylor’s videos even featured a classroom full of students and appeared to be filmed inside a school. Still, fans quickly grew suspicious that “Matt Taylor” was actually James, perhaps promoting a film or doing a side project à la KJ Apa with his “Mr. Fantasy” bit.

Who Is Matt Taylor?
Taylor introduced himself via TikTok as a 4th grade art teacher, although he has not shared any details about where he teaches. His bio reads, “🎨 Life’s Messy. Art is Beautiful. Let’s turn this Mess into a Masterpiece.”
In his first video, shared on October 15, 2025, Taylor showed viewers a bulletin board that read, “Reading gives your imagination wings.” He then gave a passionate speech about art also empowering one’s imagination, showing clips of his students working on their classroom projects.
“It teaches you about life. It’s not even about the art. It’s about what you’re bringing to it that creates the art,” he said.
In another video, Taylor encouraged viewers to think outside of the box, while a third clip showed him sitting at a desk and telling students to submit “questions about art.” A fourth video showed Taylor painting a sunset on a canvas.
Why Fans Think Matt Taylor Is Kevin James
Since he joined TikTok, Taylor’s comments have been flooded with fans wondering if he’s really James in (not much of a) disguise.
“Looks like Kevin James, sounds like Kevin James, same mannerisms as Kevin James,” one person commented on one of Taylor’s videos, while another user added, “Imagine his real name is Matt Taylor & his stage name is Kevin James 😳 & Matt is really an art teacher & Kevin is an actor.”
People have even taken to James’ account to joke about his connection to Taylor, with one fan commenting on a recent post, “Kind of looks like a younger version of my old art teacher Mr. Taylor.”
One suspicious detail about Taylor’s account that people noticed was the fact that he only follows one person — Ed Sheeran. Perhaps he’s just a big fan of the “Shape of You” singer?
Other users pointed out that although Taylor’s classroom videos may seem convincing, there’s something off about them.
“Everyone trying to figure out if this is real and hasn’t even realized that a teacher would never put their students on social media,” one fan wrote.

Fans Think Kevin James Is Promoting a Movie
It’s worth noting that James does have a movie coming up in 2026 called Solo Mio, in which he stars as a character named — you guessed it — Matt. Many fans are speculating that the TikTok account is an elaborate promo for the film.

But how does that connect to teaching 4th grade art, one might ask?
“A common theme in these TikToks is that it’s never too late to start over, or make beauty out of a mess,” one TikTok user wrote. “I’m guessing that’ll be a theme in the movie also.”
James is also set to star in the upcoming action comedy film Playdate, which will release on Prime Video November 12, 2025. The movie sees James as Brian, a stay-at-home dad who loses his job and “accepts a playdate invitation from another stay-at-home dad who turns out to be a loose cannon.”

Who Are the Kids in Matt Taylor’s Classroom?
If James is posing as Taylor, then one has to wonder where his classroom full of students came from. They might be hired child actors if the account has something to do with an upcoming film. It’s worth noting that the youngest of James’ four children with wife Steffiana de la Cruz — daughter Sistine — is 10 years old as of October 2025, which would place her in fourth or fifth grade. James may be filming inside Sistine’s classroom.
