Wicked: For Good Announces Date for Soundtrack Release, New Songs
The soundtrack for part two of the Wicked films will include two new songs.
Oh what a celebration we’ll have today— there is new information about the music for the forthcoming Wicked: For Good. It has been announced that the soundtrack for the second part of the film adaptation of the Broadway show will include two new songs written by composer Stephen Schwartz: a solo for Cynthia Erivo‘s Elphaba called “No Place Like Home” and one for Ariana Grande‘s Glinda called “Girl in the Bubble.”
The soundtrack for Wicked: For Good will be released by Republic Records and Verve Records November 21, the same date that the film will be released in theatres. Wicked: For Good encompasses the second act of the Wicked musical, with an expanded script and songs.
“I’m especially happy that the soundtrack album for Wicked: For Good has so much new music on it,” said Schwartz in a statement. “In addition to two brand new songs, there is a lot that’s new in several other existing songs. So not only listeners coming to the score for the first time, but long-time fans of the original Broadway cast album, will have a great deal to discover.” Though the first Wicked film did not have any new songs, Schwartz did write some new material for existing songs.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, movie director Jon M. Chu expanded on the new songs, saying: “They’re questioning, ‘What is home? And what happens when you are fighting for a home that you realize doesn’t even want you there, or was never meant for you? Do you defend it? Do you fight for it? Does anyone else think of home the same as you?’ Those questions are very interesting and relevant to Elphaba’s journey.” Of “Girl in the Bubble,” says Chu: “Glinda is the one that has to ultimately pop her own bubble. She has to leave her privilege to actually see other people’s struggles and fight for justice and equality.”
Just a quick perusal of the track list does show some differences between the soundtrack and the Wicked Broadway cast album. The second act opener “Thank Goodness” has been split into “Every Day More Wicked” and “Thank Goodness / I Couldn’t Be Happier,” hinting at new material. The short song “The Wicked Witch of the East,” which is usually sung by Nessarose in the stage show but had previously been left off the Wicked cast album, will be included in the For Good soundtrack, sung by Marissa Bode, Erivo, and Ethan Slater.
And as previously predicted, the song “Wonderful” (formerly sung by the Wizard and Elphaba) is now a trio song sung by Jeff Goldblum, Grande, and Erivo.
Notably, the show finale, which is on the Wicked cast album, is missing in the soundtrack–perhaps pointing to a different kind of ending for the film.

The soundtrack for the first part of the Wicked film was released in November 2024 by Republic Records and Verve Records.

Wicked: For Good also stars West End Company Olivier winner and Bridgerton star Jonathan Bailey as Fiyero, SpongeBob SquarePants star Ethan Slater as Boq, Emmy winner Peter Dinklage as Dr. Dillamond, Oscar winner Michelle Yeoh as Madame Morrible, Jeff Goldblum as The Wizard, and Marissa Bode as Nessarose, the first wheelchair-using actor in the musical’s history to take on the role.

Stage and screen star Keala Settle, Bowen Yang, Bronwyn James, Aaron Teoh, and Colin Michael Carmichael are also in the cast, with Settle as Miss Coddle, Carmichael as Professor Nikidik, and Yang, James, and Teoh as Shiz students Pfannee, ShenShen, and Avaric, respectively.
The screen adaptation is helmed by In the Heights screen director Jon M. Chu. Wicked book writer Winnie Holzman penned the screenplay with Dana Fox, and Tony winner Paul Tazewell designed the Oscar-winning costumes.
Wicked, injecting a new backstory onto the classic tale The Wizard of Oz, debuted on Broadway in 2003 and continues to be an audience favorite at the Gershwin Theatre. Based on the novel by Gregory Maguire, the musical features music and lyrics by Schwartz and a book by Holzman. The original cast included Tony winners Idina Menzel and Kristin Chenoweth as Elphaba and Glinda, respectively. The musical is now the fourth longest-running production in Broadway history.
The show won 2004 Tony Awards for Best Actress in a Musical (Menzel), Best Costume Design (Susan Hilferty), and Best Scenic Design (Eugene Lee).
