BUFFALO, N.Y. — Look to the Western Sky of Buffalo, as Shea’s Performing Arts Center welcomes the national tour of “Wicked.”
Production crews, on the ground and in the air, are setting up for Wednesday’s opening night of “Wicked” at Shea’s.
“This has been such a great theater town for years. We have all the stage magic,” said Steve Quinn, company manager of the national tour of “Wicked.” “This theater, the history of this theater; so to play this building is so amazing for us.”
Buffalo is one of many stops “Wicked” is making across the country, as the production coincides with the release of the second part of the “Wicked” movie, in theaters next week.
“Wicked,” a prequel to the legendary “The Wizard of Oz”, follows the origin of Elphaba, the green-skinned Wicked Witch of the West and her close, yet complicated, relationship with popular college roommate, Glinda.
“The story of friendship. It’s funny. It’s two very powerful women,” said Quinn. “When you come into this building and you see the dragon behind me and the Oz map, you know you’re going to go away somewhere for two-and-a-half hours. We’re going to transport you to Oz.”
The production runs through Sunday, Nov. 30, before taking off to Syracuse.
