Platonic, the Apple TV+ series starring Rose Byrne and Seth Rogen as slightly maladjusted best friends, returned this summer after two years. The sharply funny show, which was created by husband-and-wife team Francesca Delbanco and Nick Stoller (who directed Rogen and Byrne in Neighbors and Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising), improved on the first season and gained new fans and praise for the performances, particularly from Byrne.
Platonic’s second season comes to a close on October 1, raising the question, what comes next?

Will there be a Platonic season 3?
That remains to be seen. The show was originally designed to be an anthology series, with different casts each season. The plan changed during the first season, when Delbanco and Stoller were too in love with Byrne and Rogen to have their story end so soon.
“They have such amazing chemistry together, and it was such a great experience, that we decided to ask them if they would be open to doing more, and they said yes,” Stoller said to The Hollywood Reporter. “And Apple, rightly so, felt like they were the show’s identity. I remember they said, ‘Who is going to want to watch a season two without them?’”
There has been no announcement about Platonic’s future but Rogen, who also stars on the Apple TV+ series The Studio, has indicated he’d be up for a season 3, telling Decider,“I would love to keep doing Platonic. I think there are really great storylines for the season. And it’s something I would love to keep doing as long as people enjoy watching it.”

Who would be in the cast of a third season?
Another season would undoubtedly include Luke Mcfarlane, who plays Byrne’s husband. There would also surely be new comedy guest stars. Season 2 included appearances from Aidy Bryant, Kyle Mooney, and Beck Bennett.
One actor Byrne and Rogen would love to have on Platonic? Zac Efron, who starred with both of them in Neighbors and its sequel. “I don’t understand why that hasn’t come to fruition yet. Now, I have it in my head that’s what we need to do,” Byrne told The Hollywood Reporter.
