A Wiltshire college was ‘cleared’ for a royal family visit after Prince George was spotted on a tour with his family.
On Sunday, March 8, the Daily Mail reported that William, Prince of Wales, Catherine, Princess of Wales, Prince George and Princess Charlotte, were all spotted looking around Marlborough College.
A source told the Mail that pupils were ‘ushered’ out of the college’s main square, and told that they could not be outside.
The Mail reports that pupils were ‘shocked’ to see the royals getting out of a car and walking through the main square shortly afterwards.
It was thought that Prince George might attend Eton, like his father, but it seems he may follow in his mother’s footsteps instead – the Princess of Wales was a pupil at Marlborough College, after she left her previous school due to bullying.
Princess Eugenie also attended Marlborough College, as well as the Princess of Wales’ sister, Pippa Middleton.
Prince George is currently 12, and in his last year at Lambrook prep school.
This is not the first time that speculation has mounted around where the Prince will attend school next.
In December 2025, the Wiltshire Gazette and Herald reported that rumours Prince George would attend Marlborough College were “hotting up”.
This was based on reports by The Telegraph, that William and Kate, the Prince and Princess of Wales, may well have ‘settled’ on the school for their eldest son.
Sophia Money-Coutts, Telegraph columnist, said at the time that a “well connected friend” had told her the matter had been settled.
She said: “A well-connected friend called me last week. ‘He’s going to Marlborough’, she said authoritatively.
“‘They’ve sent letters out to parents’. She meant Prince George. After many years of debate, Prince George will reportedly go to Marlborough College next September, like his mother aunt and uncle before him, and those with children in the same house have been quietly alerted.
“She could be wrong, my friend. This rumour mill has been churning for some time now, after all, with Eton and various others thrown in the mix.
“But she isn’t often wrong and treats gossip as solemnly as Oscar Wilde. So, Marlborough it may well be.”
Former headmaster at the college and educational consultant, Rhidian Llwellyn told The Telegraph at the time that he thought the college would be a good choice for Prince George.
He said: “It’s well documented that Catherine did not have a happy time at Downe House and, having transferred to Marlborough, she flourished.
“That works strongly in Marlborough’s favour. I also think that she’d like to educate the three children in the same school.
“Eton is obviously the most prestigious school in the world, and keeping their heads slightly further under the parapet with Marlborough perhaps makes sense.”
