Winterplace Ski Resort, home to West Virginia’s largest snow tubing park and one of the most accessible ski resorts in the Southeast, invites families to experience some of the best skiing conditions of the season during its Annual Bluebird Festival. The weekend-long celebration of slopeside takes place Saturday, February 21 through Sunday, February 22.
“We still have plenty of snow on the slopes, and more natural snowfall is in the forecast this weekend,” said Josh Faber, general manager of Winterplace Ski Resort. “It’s a great time to enjoy skiing as we head into March, with comfortable temperatures and excellent conditions across the mountain.”
Families can enjoy exciting snow events for all ages including a Mini Big Air freestyle competition at the resort’s Heaven Holler Terrain Park, family ski races, face painting and food trucks. Guests can also enjoy live entertainment at the Snowdrift on Saturday from 4 p.m. – 7 p.m. and on Sunday from 1 p.m. – 4 p.m.
The festival kicks off on Saturday with the Mini Big Air, open to all ages. Registration will be held from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. the day of the event, with prizes awarded for first place. Face painting will be available from 11 a.m. – 4 p.m., food trucks will be on site throughout the day and live music will take the stage from 4 p.m. – 7 p.m.
The popular Family Races return Sunday. Teams consisting of one parent and one child under the age of 12 will complete two runs, with the best combined times determining the winners. Registration and waivers will be available from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m., followed by practice runs from 1 p.m. – 2 p.m. Heats and finals will run from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m., with awards presented at 4:30 p.m. Prizes will be awarded for first place.
