Witney Carson responded to fan backlash after private messages referencing Zac and Dylan Efron drew attention following the Dancing With the Stars season finale.
Earlier in the week, Carson posted a celebratory reel on Instagram marking her win with her DWTS partner Robert Irwin in Season 34.
The clip showed off messages from her husband, Carson McAllister, supporting her throughout the competition.
One exchange sparked controversy and was later deleted.
In a screenshot captured before it was deleted, McAllister wrote to his wife during the November 18 semifinals, “Zac Efron is here.”
She added, “I’m so proud of you for being the best mama, I know how hard it is to balance it all and you do it so well.”
Carson also complimented Dylan directly, writing, “Seeing you shine and grow each week was such a pleasure to watch, not to mention how down to earth you are!”
She ended the message by telling him, “I’m a fan for life.”
One day earlier, Carson posted a tearful video reflecting on her second mirrorball trophy.
“I seriously have no words. I’m just, like, coming off all the adrenaline and the messages have been incredible,” she said in a clip shared on November 27. “It’s been the craziest ride ever. To share this win with someone like Robert [Irwin] is so special.”
She also noted the personal meaning behind the win.
“Eleven years ago that day, I had won with Alfonso. Eleven has been mine and Carson’s number since his dad passed away. Eleven-eleven has been very significant [to us]. Eleven years just felt so meant to be. It was crazy.”
