Witney Carson Speaks Out After Son, 2, Gets Shamed on a 13-Hour Flight for ‘Playing and Giggling’

Witney Carson is speaking out about being “shamed” by a flight attendant on a 13-hour flight after a fellow passenger requested her 2-year-old son be quiet.

In a series of posts shared to her Instagram Stories on Sunday, Jan. 25, the DWTS pro, 32, got candid about the difficulties she faced on her flight back to the U.S. from Australia — where she, husband Carson McAllister, and sons Kevin, 5, and Jet, 2, visited her Mirrorball-winning parter, Robert Irwin.

“Question for you guys, and be honest — is it appropriate to ask for a child to be quiet for the entire 13-hour flight?” she posted. “Jet was playing and giggling with me and we were asked to be quiet because a man up in front said he was trying to rest.”

“I totally get if there needs to be a certain time where we need to sleep, but it’s in the middle of the day. I’m a big advocate of, ‘Worry about things that are in your control and put some freaking ear [plugs] in.’ Am I being crazy?” she questioned.

In another post, she detailed how a flight attendant “kept shushing Jet,” prompting her to speak up in defense of her son.

“I got up and asked [the flight attendant] if there were certain times on the flight we needed to be quiet and we’d respect that,” Carson wrote. “If not, I don’t expect my children to sit quietly for 13 hours. OK, bye, I’m done.”

One additional follow-up saw the mom-of-two express her gratitude for the support she received from fans.

“Seems I’ve reached the right side of Instagram,” the dancer added, alongside a photo of herself flashing a thumbs-up while sitting on a plane, “and I feel very validated. Thanks for letting me vent.”

“We ride at dawn,” she joked.

Carson also took time to share a photo of Jet sleeping in a chair, seemingly snapped in between flights, as she praised her younger son for his good behavior.

“Angel boy!!!! Almost there little dude,” the dancer wrote.

Carson and husband McAllister welcomed son Kevin in January 2021 and Jet in May 2023.

The couple relocated their family from Utah to Florida in 2023. Later that year, Carson announced she would not be returning for DWTS season 32, so she could focus on her family, but made her DWTS return in 2024 for the show’s 33rd season.

Following her and Irwin’s win on season 34 of DWTS, Carson and her whole family took the opportunity to visit her dance partner Irwin — as well as his sister Bindi Irwin, another DWTS winner, and the rest of the Irwin family at the Australia Zoo.

“I’m a little emo writing this while driving away from the zoo 😭,” Carson wrote in another Instagram post, reflecting on the family’s visit to Australia. “Our time here at @australiazoo can only be described as magic. From meeting these incredible animals, to walking out of our cabin and seeing kangaroos every single morning, to experiencing so many firsts together as a family, this is something I’ll never forget.”

“The biggest shoutout to @robertirwinphotography for putting so much energy and time into planning every detail and welcoming our family into your home,” she added of the conservationist. “It was so fun to see you in your element, we are incredibly proud of you and everything you stand for.”
