The Ladybug Music Festival returns with a full lineup of programming that begins before the first performance takes the stage. This year, Ladybug Music Festival presents Women’s Week, a series of events taking place May 26 through May 30, each designed to create space for connection, creativity, and community in the days leading up to the festival.
“Ladybug has really grown into more than just a one-day festival. It’s become a full week of programming that builds toward Saturday. Each piece intentionally creates a different kind of space for women to show up, connect, and be seen,” said Festival Director Jill Slader-Young.
At the core of Women’s Week is a whole-person approach, one that considers creativity, health, storytelling, ownership, and community as interconnected. The programming is designed to feel inclusive and welcoming, with an emphasis on creating spaces that are not only engaging, but intentional.
“We’re thinking about creativity, health, storytelling, ownership, and community not as separate things, but as connected parts of how women live and move through the world. There’s a strong emphasis on creating spaces that feel inclusive, trauma-aware, and genuinely safe, not just performative, but thoughtfully designed,” Slader-Young said.
The week begins on Tuesday, May 26, with Her Lens: Stories by Women on Screen, a film-focused evening in partnership with the Wilmington International Film Festival. The event centers on storytelling and representation, creating space for perspectives that are not always amplified.
On Wednesday, May 27, Art x Assets: Creativity, Wealth + Ownership explores the intersection of creativity and economic empowerment, focusing on how women build, sustain, and own their work and ideas.
Thursday, May 28 brings TEDxWilmingtonWomen, a broader ideas night featuring speakers and storytellers across industries. The evening highlights leadership, innovation, and lived experience through a range of perspectives.
On Friday, May 29, the UnConference: Women’s Health & Wellness offers a more collaborative, participant-driven experience. The day focuses on whole-person wellness, physical, mental, and community, and is designed to feel open, flexible, and responsive.
Each event throughout the week leads into Saturday, May 30, when the Ladybug Music Festival takes over Market Street with a full day of women-led music and performance.
“What everything across the week keeps coming back to is really about awareness, connection, and celebration; creating multiple entry points for people to engage, and then bringing that energy together in a shared, public way at the festival,” Slader-Young said.
