It’s a brand new week, and I’m still feeling post-concert depression after seeing Nine Inch Nails’ amazing Peel It Back Tour. If you’re able to afford it, I highly recommend you check it out. Even this week’s music news wasn’t enough to cure my blues. Still, here’s this week’s While You Were Away featuring new music from grandson and KITTIE, plus the return of Florence + The Machine, and more.

Twenty One Pilots gives us another preview of their upcoming album, Breach, with their new single “Drum Show.” The track not only features a killer performance from Josh Dun, but it also marks the first time he has sung on a twenty one pilots song.

Speaking about the album on social media, Tyler Joseph said, “I’m so, so pumped for you guys to hear this record. Breach took everything I had left; but as I stare at these finished wav files, I realise how little they mean until they get to you. Fans of this band have given me so much fulfilment and purpose. Thank you for that.”

Listen to “Drum Show” below. Breach arrives on September 12th.

KITTIE will celebrate the 25th anniversary of their debut album, Spit, with a new EP of re-recorded songs. Spit XXV arrives on September 19th via Sumerian Records and features revamped versions of “Spit,” “Do You Think I’m a Whore?,” “Brackish,” and “Charlotte.” Stream the title track below.

“It’s hard to believe that 25 years after its release, and almost 30 years since Kittie began, people are still talking about Spit,” remarked singer-guitarist Morgan Lander in a press release. “There is something truly unexplainable in why our debut album is still resonating with people, finding a new audience and has had such a lasting impact on so many.”

She continued: “Reimagining some of these classic songs for the 25th anniversary of Spit was a lot of fun and a true testament to their longevity. It reveals just how relevant in the musical landscape they still are today. We were honoured to work with Garth again where it all began after more than two decades, and doing so was a cool way to pay homage to the past while updating these songs with a modern sound, bringing them into the future.”

Florence + The Machine announce new album ‘Everybody Scream’

Florence + The Machine have announced their sixth album, Everybody Scream, which comes out on Halloween (October 31st).

The follow-up to 2022’s Dance Fever was inspired by Florence Welch’s recovery from a life-saving surgery. The album came together over a two-year period with a close knit group of collaborators, including IDLES’ Mark Bowen, Mitski, and The National’s Aaron Dessner.

The band also shared the title track along with its accompanying music video directed by Autumn de Wilde. Watch the video below.

Ahead of the release of his new album, INERTIA, grandson has shared his new single “GOD IS AN ANIMAL.” Explaining the meaning behind the song, the singer said:

“Years ago while on tour I had this idea for a musical based off of George Orwell’s 1984, where a farm animal realises to run the farm it has to move like a human. After a couple iterations of that, I decided to release the title-track from it on INERTIA, and trust that if that project is meant to be, it’ll find its way to the light someday.”

“It’s certainly a fitting concept for the present moment in time,” he adds. “After all, we live in a ruthless world, supposedly ‘civilized’, where the dominating nations and religions scrapped their way to the top through the savage rule of the animal kingdom. We’re ultimately just apes, too smart – or stupid – for our own good.”
