So, when those two have the same favorite song, it has to be really good! Recently, an interview clip of Billy Joel praising Glen Campbell’s “Wichita Lineman” had fans all noting one really cool detail:
“Wichita Lineman” is notorious for being a song beloved by many, but it’s most notably been a longtime favorite of Bob Dylan. Dylan has referred to it as “The greatest song ever written,” and in this interview with Bill Maher, Billy Joel echoes that sentiment.
“If I could write a song as good as ‘Wichita Lineman,’ that Jimmy Webb wrote,” he says, “I’d be a very happy man.” This coming from Billy Joel, 6-time Grammy-award-winning artist. If he’s saying your song is that good and Bob Dylan is backing him up, it really must be that good.

The song was written by songwriter Jimmy Webb for Glen Campbell, and the lyrics hit just as hard then as they do now. Fans in the comments of this video are raving about the song, with one fan saying, “You can feel ‘Wichita Lineman’ in your bones.”
Another person wrote, “Nobody skips ‘Wichita Lineman.’ Your mind is immediately transported to watching the lineman work and feeling compassion for him,” which would probably make songwriter Jimmy Webb proud. In this interview clip, Joel even says, “There’s a song called ‘Stop In Nevada.’ I was trying to write ‘Wichita Lineman!'”
